Plumtree Town (Cemeteries) By-Laws, 2025

Plumtree burial fees: US$20,02 for an adult resident at Mathendele and US$40,04 at Murgatroyd, rising to US$70 and US$93,43 for non-residents and non-Zimbabweans — while every penalty is printed as nil.

These by-laws govern burials in the Plumtree Town council's cemeteries, covering permission for burial, reservation, exclusive rights of burial, burial times, grave depth, exhumation, memorial works, buildings in cemeteries, opening hours and other restrictions. Hearses and vehicles carrying infirm people are exempt from the bar on vehicles entering without approval.

Fees differ sharply by cemetery and status. At Mathendele an adult burial costs US$20,02 for a resident on any day, and US$70 for non-residents and non-Zimbabweans; children cost US$10 and US$22,69 respectively. At Murgatroyd an adult burial costs US$40,04 for residents and US$93,43 for non-residents and non-Zimbabweans, while children's burials there are printed as nil.

Other charges include US$10 for a grave search, US$20,02 for a tombstone installation application, US$20,02 to reserve a grave at Mathendele and US$40,04 to renew at Murgatroyd, annual fees for reserved graves of US$106,78 at Mathendele and US$133,47 at Murgatroyd, and US$11,12 to apply for a reserved grave. Grave panels and lined graves are at cost recovery, and applications for an exclusive right of burial, special burial times, memorial works and exhumation are free.

Every entry in the penalty schedule is printed as US$0,00 — unauthorised burial, more than two bodies in a grave, removing a body, exhumation without approval, building in a cemetery, unauthorised entry, stone dressing, advertising, conveying goods, climbing on memorials, obstructing an officer, unapproved floral tributes, planting trees on graves and unauthorised vehicles. Amounts are payable in local currency at the interbank rate and exclude VAT.
