Defence (Cantonment) (Zimbabwe Defence Forces) Notice, 2025

Seven pieces of land — Chiwere, Kasama and Eureka farms in Chegutu, Central Estate at Mvuma, James Farm at Ruwa, Blackforby and Falcon in Harare — are declared Defence Forces cantonments, bringing them under Part IX of the Defence Act.

The Minister of Defence has, under section 89 of the Defence Act, declared the areas described in the Schedule to be cantonments for the purposes of Part IX of that Act, which governs land held and controlled for defence purposes.

Seven properties are listed, each described by survey map sheet, area and coordinates in both UTM Zone 36K and the Military Grid Reference System: Chiwere Farm in Chegutu (776 hectares), Kasama Farm in Chegutu (884 hectares), Eureka Farm in Chegutu (721 hectares), part of Central Estates at Mvuma (3 550 hectares), part of James Farm at Ruwa in Goromonzi (427 hectares), Blackforby, and Falcon in Harare (75,2 hectares).

The plans defining each piece of land may be inspected free of charge at the office of the Secretary for Defence, Defence House, Kwame Nkrumah Avenue, Harare.

For anyone with an interest in or adjoining these properties, the practical significance is the change of legal status rather than any new obligation stated in the notice itself: cantonment status attracts the controls in Part IX of the Defence Act over entry, use and activity on the land.
