Brands (Fees) (Amendment) Regulations, 2024 (No. 7)

Registering, re-registering or transferring a livestock brand now costs US$5, and a duplicate brand certificate US$10 — payable in Zimbabwe dollars at the prevailing interbank rate.

The Minister of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage has replaced the fee schedule in the Brands Regulations, 1998. The Third Schedule is repealed and substituted with just two items.

Registration, re-registration or transfer of a registered brand is US$5,00. A duplicate brand certificate is US$10,00. A footnote says the fees may be paid in Zimbabwean dollars at the prevailing interbank rate, so cattle owners are not required to find hard currency.

The regulations also repeal the Brands (Amendment) Regulations, 2009 (No. 6), published in S.I. 139 of 2009 — the schedule that had been in force since then.

These are small amounts, but branding is compulsory for cattle owners and the fee applies at every registration and transfer, so anyone buying or selling branded stock should budget for it. No commencement date and no penalty are stated.

A printing note: the running head reads "S.I. 12 of 2023" although this is S.I. 9 of 2024.
